Today, we would like to share with you our recent contribution to the SSEAYP Virtual Conference 2022.

From 22nd October to 18 December 2022, SIS supported the National Youth Council (NYC) for a pre-departure training for participants in the SSEAYP Virtual Conference 2022. Our association provided speakers for each discussion group and ice-breaking activities for the event. We are pleased to report that our contributions were well-received, and we will continue to support NYC in future activities.

The SSEAYP Youth Conference 2021 was carried out to promote friendship and youth exchange between Japan and the ten ASEAN member countries, even in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference aimed to promote mutual understanding among the youths of Japan and ASEAN member countries by participating in various exchange activities. As a result, it is expected to cultivate youths who can exercise their leadership skills in various fields in the globalizing society, take the world’s social agenda as their own issues, and move into action to solve those issues.

The conference was conducted online, and it shared several common activities with the Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP). The activities included group discussions and peer learning sessions planned and organized by participating youths. In the group discussions, the participating youths deepened their understanding of the world’s social agenda and discussed how youth can contribute to achieving the 17 goals of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) grouped by the following nine topics: Empowerment of All People, Poverty/Access to Water and Food, Employment and Decent Work, Education, Resilient and Sustainable Cities, Good Health and Well-being, Life on Land, Life below Water, and Sustainable Energy. The group discussions were led by nine facilitators who are experts in the respective fields.

We are proud to have supported the SSEAYP Virtual Conference 2022 and played a role in promoting youth exchange and leadership development. We look forward to continuing our support for NYC and other organizations in future activities.
